Journey Mentor Program Overview

Journey to Success is a peer mentoring program designed to assist first-year students in making a successful transition from high school to college, specifically in the areas of character, scholarship, and leadership. The mentor relationship is vital to the success of this program. Consequently, it is important we find mentors who have a desire to come alongside freshmen in effort to help them grow and be successful throughout their first year of college. Each first-year student signed up to live on the eastside (North or South) will understand that he/she will be assigned a mentor throughout the first year at IWU. You, as a mentor, will serve as a guide, resource, big brother/sister, and friend to 1-2 freshman students.

All continuing students selected to participate in Journey to Success will be part of the Journey Leadership Team, which is comprised of the Associate Dean for Mentoring and Residential Learning Initiatives, four Mentoring Coordinators (2 North & 2 South) and the Journey Mentors. The primary function of a Journey Mentor is to assist 1-2 first year students in making a successful transition from high school to college, specifically in the areas of character, scholarship, and leadership.

Here is what current mentors are saying about their experience:

"I decided to be a mentor because of the amazing experience I had being a mentee. My mentor freshman year was an unbelievable representation of Christ's love. Seeing how much of an impact she made on my life made me want to make that same impact on someone else. I wanted to make a difference in someone's life, and saw how possible it was through the love that my mentor showed and still shows me." - Allison '12

"My favorite part of the mentoring program has been being able to build a solid relationship with my mentee and see him adjust and grow in his first few months of college. Also being able to stretch and grow myself in ways that I would not have been able to do by myself." C.J. '12

Should you apply and be accepted into this program you will be given priority housing in North or South Hall Complex (whichever applies to you), and you will be allowed to pick your roommate and suitemates who are not required to apply or be accepted into the program.
