Job Description
A Journey Mentor is part of the Journey Leadership Team, which is comprised of the Associate Dean for Mentoring and Residential Learning Initiatives, two Mentoring Coordinators and the Journey Mentors. The primary function of a journey mentor is to assist 1-2 first year students in making a successful transition from high school to college, specifically in the areas of leadership, personal development, character, and academic success.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Self motivated, good interpersonal skills and strong Christian character
- Exceptional commitment to Indiana Wesleyan University
- Minimum G.P.A. 2.5
- Good citizenship standing
- Strong desire to assist first year students in the following areas: leadership/community involvement, personal development, character, and academic success
General Responsibilities:
The journey mentor will be required to fulfill the following duties:
- Return to campus Sunday, August 30, 2009 and attend mentor training initiatives.
- Meet one on one with your first year students a minimum of once every other week in the fall and once per month during the spring semester.
- Attend a mandatory Journey Leadership meeting, which will occur an average of once per month.
- Attend and assist the Mentoring Coordinators in planning (as needed) mentoring programming throughout the year (3 events fall semester and 3 events in the spring semester).
- Attend spring semester Talk Back Session (date: To Be Determined).
